How can we reorient ourselves towards living a generous life? And why would we want to?
In our market-driven world we often conflate the virtue of generosity with our financial capability. We buy gifts, give money to charity and build businesses that donate profits to worthy causes. While these are respectable and generous acts, we often overlook the many other facets of the virtue of generosity: compassion, openness and empathy. The truly generous person gives not from a sense of obligation, but from a sense that they too, in many areas of their life, stand in need of generosity.
How can we reorient ourselves towards living a generous life? What is the relationship between generosity and privilege? How can we rethink the act of giving outside our financial capability?
Join Dumbo Feather and the School of Life as we ask OzHarvest founder and social entrepreneur Ronni Kahn to share her vision for a more generous world, and how we can get there.
An authentic and generous leader, Ronni founded OzHarvest in 2004, driven by a passion to make a difference and stop good food going to waste. After changing the law to make it safe for companies to donate surplus food, she has grown OzHarvest to be Australia’s leading food rescue organisation, opened the first free supermarket and is now taking her unique food rescue model global.
At this unique event, we will hear about Ronni’s personal journey, and draw on the ideas of philosophers such as Descartes, Nietzsche, Aristotle and Aquinas to learn practical ways we can lead a life of generosity.
Proceeds from this event go to OzHarvest.
